Wow! Thank you, Megan from Polish the Stars!

Gifts for Friends Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

I made two of these: one for a good friend, and one for my cousin.  Both were recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
The first one got given away before I got a photo, so here's the second little book bag.

I saw the button idea somewhere--but I can't remember where!  I purchased a bag of pink buttons and the small bag at Jo-Ann's.  And then just hand-stitched the buttons onto the pocket.

Then I put in a small bound notebook.  I was given a similar book when I had breast cancer, and I used it to write down questions for my doctors, notes to myself, thoughts, phone numbers, etc, etc.  It was quite useful!
Isn't the French proverb on the front just perfect?

Inside, I wrote Bible verses throughout:

James 1: 2-4
Count it all joy, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

2 Corinthians 7:6
God comforts the downcast

1 Chronicles 16:34
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
1 John 3:1
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

Romans 8:45
Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Psalm 31:1
In you, LORD, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
deliver me in your righteousness.

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through him who gives me strength.

The book bag has room to hold the notebook plus another book, cell phone,
a snack or whatever!

I pray that these simple gifts help my friends and family as they go through
this long process of curing breast cancer!

Bathroom Inspiration

White!  Love the medicine cabinets.

Just soothing.  The bench is lovely.

Pretty!

Very traditional.  I like the "legs" on the vanity.
 Again, very traditional.
More "farmhouse" or "country".  The blue wall is lovely.  The beadboard
tub surround is great.

Bath Woes

I'm also continuing to work on the master bath.

We tend to like more traditional decor, with a bit of whimsy thrown in!
By whimsy, I mean a bit of shabby chic, farmhouse and comfy family furnishings scattered about----just for good measure and to decrease any stuffiness inherent in a more traditional style.

We also want to try to have a vintage-y farmshouse true to the style of the house exterior.

Does this make sense?  Well, anyhow, searching around the web, I found some 1920 bath designs!

I like the simplicity of this pink bath, the mirrors and the shower curtain:

 A bathroom that's a sunroom!  Note the shower curtain/valence:

Again, the bath below (called "Plain Jane"---I resent that!) is quite simple.  Love the mirror!
(Especially since it looks like my mirror!)

Remember my mirror?

And that I found a mirror on Ebay that matched up beautifully?

Well, this is the way the mirror arrived:

I had to truck this mess down to the Post Office so that they could appropriate the remaining mirror-less medicine cabinet and turn in a claim.  Yes, they took the cabinet!  What in the world is the U.S. Post Office going to do with a medicine cabinet?

Anyhooooo.  I don't have another mirror for Dearest Husband.  :(

But that hasn't stopped me from working on the master bath!  I decided to paint the cabinets.  The light creamy white has turned all yellowish.  Ugh.

See all the dings?  And this photo came out all funny--the cabinets
really are a sickly yellowish white.

So, after perusing the web and reading of other's experiences, we settled on using Rustoleum's Cabinet Transformation Kit.  It's been quite an adventure....more to come!

The Laundry Room...I've Really Been Working on It!

Here's a project I finished!

All by myself!

Dearest Husband showed me how to use several woodworking tools--a sander, a circular saw, and that doo-hickey that makes holes.  (See how technical I am!)

I sorta followed directions from Censational Girl here

using a piece of scrap wood for the back (I liked it because it looked a bit like bead board) and more scrap bits for the frame for the dowels (which came from WalMart).

Plus lots of sanding and coats of paint to get the dowels REALLY smooth so as not to snag the unmentionables.

It folds up nicely against the wall when not in use, using this type of window sash catch:

Except I chose a "nickel" color from Lowe's.
I also bought the chain from Lowe's--the nice people there will cut it for you!
